Barsanti's Restaurant
Once said to be the Oldest and Best Kept Secret in the Sault.
Oldest because when the clubhouse was built in 1964 it was the first licensed establishment in the township of Tarentarous. Root River Dining Lounge became the city's favourite night club hot spots and a fine supper club. There would be standing room only on a Friday or Saturday night while Tony Diodati and Lou Olivera belted out everyone's favourite Elvis tunes.
Architect Perry Short put one of Harvey Barsanti Sr.'s dreams on paper, but it was Jane Barsanti who carried on the vision after Harvey's passing in 1960. The hospitality industry welcomed Jane with open arms as she and her sister Dorothy Kucher made the Root River Buffet a staple for golf tournaments, weddings, anniversaries and Christmas parties. Dorothy performed magic with roast chicken and her recipes for chiff choff and lemon tarts are what legends are made of.
While all this was happening for the Barsanti's at Root River Golf Club, another part of the family (first cousins to Harvey) Remo, Cleto, Marsh and Howard had established the Barsanti name in the restaurant business: Barsanti's Steak House on Queen Street and Barsanti's Small Frye on Trunk Road gained the respect of many for their good food and a full plate. With that in mind, and the blessing of the family, Root River Dining Lounge was renamed to Barsanti's Restaurant at Root River Golf Club in 2003.
Roberta Barbeau, Jane's daughter, now carries on the tradition along with Karen Greco and Ida Caruso in preparing the handmade pastas, pies and lemon tarts.
Barsanti's Restaurant offers daily lunch and dinner specials, with Prime Rib on Friday and Saturday nights. We also have fresh Lake Superior Whitefish and Trout as well as fresh Pickerel from the North Shore.
